Physical Structure

The Graduate Program in Pharmacy (PPGFAR) has an excellent infrastructure both for teaching and research, with laboratories suited to carry out advanced research in the different areas of concentration of the program. Considering the supervisors' ability to attract external funding, the perspectives are to constantly adapt the already existing structure to meet the students' needs, as well as to expand the student body. All program supervisors have physical infrastructure and equipment available for conducting their projects. This infrastructure was systematically set up by raising of funds from development agencies such as FAPESB, CNPq, CAPES and FINEP / UFBA.

PPGFAR currently has 14 laboratories at the Federal University of Bahia, 13 of which are located at the School of Pharmacy, two at the Institute of Health Sciences, and one at the CPqGM / FIOCRUZ, as listed below:

Laboratory of Research in Immunology (LAPIM)

This is a research laboratory aimed at studying the mechanisms involved in the immunopathogenesis of immunological diseases (allergy and autoimmune diseases) and infections.

Laboratory of Immunology of Infectious Diseases

Designed for the immunological and immunodiagnostic study of bacterial, parasitic and viral infections using serological techniques.

Laboratory of Molecular Biology

The Laboratory of Molecular Biology of the School of Pharmacy has  lately been conducting, extension and research activities in the area of hematology, biochemistry and molecular biology of hematological diseases.

Laboratory of Biochemistry

It is involved in the study and diagnosis of metabolic diseases related to the cardiovascular, renal and endocrine systems.

Laboratory of Microbiology

A laboratory focused on the study of relevant bacterial and fungal infections in Public Health. Research on the resistance of microorganisms to antimicrobial agents.

Laboratory of Research in Parasitology

The Laboratory of Research in Parasitology of the School of Pharmacy conducts research aimed at the Evaluation of Parasitological Diagnostic Methods in partnership with the Laboratory of Molecular Biology of this School, considering as a priority the development of molecular methods for diagnosis of the different species of Entamoeba. In addition, it carries out investigations related to the Study of Frequencies of Intestinal Parasite agents and Evaluation of the Treatment.

Laboratory of Research of Natural Products (LPPN)

This is a research laboratory dedicated to the phytochemical study and the search for bioactive substances of medicinal and / or endemic plants of Bahia.

Laboratory of Research on the Medical Matter (LAPEM)

A research laboratory in which the chemical composition and extraction processes of micro molecules present in plant species of regional occurrence are studied, with emphasis on those belonging to the Rutaceae family and/or for use in public health, as well as the characterization of liposomes and microspheres – empty / or containing extracts, fractions and encapsulated substances.

Laboratory of Macromolecular Crystallography.

A research laboratory dedicated to the characterization of prototype compounds by means of kinetic and thermal displacement tests, for the study of the relations between the chemical structure and the biological activity of the bioactive compounds.

Laboratory of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics

A research laboratory aimed at the study of the mechanism of action of analgesic drugs, study of the conduction and modulation of pain pathways and pathophysiology of chronic pain.

Laboratory of Toxicology (LabTox)

Aimed at evaluating environmental and occupational exposure to chemical contaminants, developing analytical methods for determination of biomarkers of exposure, and effects on human health.

Laboratory on Inflammation and Fever Pharmacology (LAFIF)

A research laboratory focused on functional studies with experimental animals related to acute and chronic inflammation.

Laboratory of Physiology and Endocrine and Cardiovascular Pharmacology (LAFFEC / ICS)

Physiology and Cardiovascular Pharmacology; Bioprospecting Studies; Evaluation of new targets and new antihypertensive therapies.

Laboratory of Immunopathogenesis and Immunomodulation in Inflammatory and Infectious Diseases

A research laboratory focused on the study of immunopathogenesis and immunomodulation in inflammatory and infectious diseases.

Laboratory of Tissue Engineering and Immunopharmacology (CPqGM / FIOCRUZ)
